“Reading, she tells me, is what she does best. She loves it because it uses the whole of her, the right and the left, the hemispheres of reason and imagination. She discovered as a child that a closed book is a darkness anyone can enter, not a scary darkness like a basement or a storm, but a comforting one that wrapped her up neatly inside a world she could control.” ~Paper Covers Rock by Jenny Hubbard
I found this quote while scrolling through Tumblr the other day, and I immediately knew that I wanted to use it in a post. This past summer I read Paper Covers Rock and really enjoyed it, both because of the story and the writing. I like this particular quote because I think it does a great job of describing why readers read.
