musical mondays: soundtracks

I love soundtracks.

I love how they can embody the feeling of a great movie, how they can take you right back to specific scenes in your mind. I love the atmosphere they provide, whether it be scary or exciting or suspenseful or calming. I love the fact that they are the connection between film and music, images and sounds.

I just love them in general.

I have a bit of a problem, and it’s this: I can’t write while listening to music with lyrics. It’s like my mind can’t produce its own words while listening to others. To remedy this situation, I’ve taken to listening to either classical music or instrumental soundtracks while writing essays, blog posts, stories, etc. Some of my favorite soundtracks to write to include The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Hobbit, and Star Trek. They’re perfect for cranking out that essay in a flash.

I sometimes feel as though soundtracks don’t get enough credit. They are awesome! So let’s spread a love of soundtracks!

What are your favorite soundtracks? Can you listen to music with lyrics while you write? Let me know in the comments section below!

  1. With you all the way on those brilliant scores from LOTR, etc. I’m a really big fan of the soundtrack from “The New World”, composed/conducted by James Horner, because it has a really soft, whimsical mood that makes me relaxed and at peace with nature. 🙂
