“I bought the milk,” said my father. “I walked out of the corner shop, and heard a noise like this: T h u m m t h u m m. I looked up and saw a huge silver disc hovering in the air above Marshall Road.”
“Hullo,” I said to myself. “That’s not something you see every day. And then something odd happened.”
Find out just how odd things get in this hilarious story of time travel and breakfast cereal, expertly told by Newbery Medalist and bestselling author Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Skottie Young.

This is the first complete audiobook that I have ever listened to, and I loved it! Neil Gaiman was the narrator, which made the whole experience a million times more enjoyable. His accent alone gets five out of five smileys from me! He did different voices for all of the characters and you could tell that he was having a fabulous time reading it. If he has narrated any more of his books I definitely want to listen to them!
The story itself was whimsical, entertaining, witty, quirky, and simply adorable! Several elements of fantasy and science fiction were thrown into the mix- time travel, far away lands, etc.- which kept things interesting and humorous. Neil Gaiman’s books seem to always mix real life with the unknown, and this was definitely no exception. The characters were all incredibly endearing and I found myself rooting for them the entire way through. The plot is spontaneous and random, yet everything was connected and nothing seemed out-of-place. I hate when stories are so all over the place that there is no flow to the plot, but that is not the case here. Despite its short length, this is a very thought-out and thoughtfully executed story.
Fortunately, the Milk is a very quick read- it only took one sitting to listen to- so I’ll keep this review short and sweet. Neil Gaiman has managed to tell a charming, excellently written tale in just over one hundred pages, and it was such a fun experience to listen to. I believe it is technically a middle grade book, but I think that readers of all ages could enjoy this captivating story.
My Rating:Â :0) :0) :0) :0) :0) 5 out of 5 smileys.
Would I recommend it to a friend?:Â YES!! Especially the audiobook.
