“Why is it that countries which we call strong are so powerful in creating wars but are so weak in bringing peace? Why is it that giving guns is so easy, but giving books is so hard?” ~ Malala Yousafzai
Malala never ceases to amaze me. This quote is so important because it speaks the truth: people often find it much easier to automatically resort to violence and anger rather than peaceful diplomacy and compromise. We should be fostering a global community of learning, growth, and compassion, yet instead people continually choose to focus on the negative aspects of our world. Part of me thinks that some people might be afraid to show more kindness and understanding because others may perceive it as being weak. Personally, I think that way of thinking is such a flaw in our society! Compassion is a sign of inner strength, of someone who is selfless and kind enough to put themselves second and others first. In order to truly change the world, we must first make this shift within ourselves.
Imagine what a positive difference we could make if more people thought like Malala!
