Top Ten Tuesday: Popcorn-Worthy Books!

TTT_ Popcorn-Worthy Books-7

Popcorn is always a must whenever I go to a movie theater. It’s definitely not the healthiest option available, but everyone has those days when they treat themselves to some good old-fashioned junk food. What makes popcorn even better (besides butter!) is a great movie to go along with it. Here are my Top Ten Popcorn-Worthy Books that I think would make awesome movies.

Action!

A Darker Shade final for IreneA Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Magic, traveling to different worlds, and several London-based settings- the mere description of this book sounds like a trailer for an action-packed movie! The magical fight scenes would be amazing. Plus, I think it’s going to be a series so the movie people wouldn’t have to stretch one book out into a million movies (*cough* like The Hobbit *cough*).

ready player one coverReady Player One by Ernest Cline

This book is so exciting, unique, and fast-paced that there’s no doubt in my mind that it would make an awesome movie. The characters are teenagers so it would appeal to that age group, but older generations would also like it because of all the iconic eighties references. It’s a win-win!

these broken stars coverThese Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Would the makers of the Star Trek please make this book into a movie? Pretty please?  It would be such a cool outer space adventure, with a little romance and supernatural elements added into the mix. The luxurious ship, the crash, and the strange planet would be really exciting so see on the big screen. And let’s not forget about Tarver!

Romance

anna and the french kiss coverAnna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

There are so many reasons why this would be an adorable “chick-flick” type movie. 1) It takes place in Paris, 2) the romance is really well written, and 3) ST. CLAIR IS AMAZING. This book has quite a following, so I really do think it would be popular as a movie. Besides, there are two other books as well so they could make those into movies, too.

eleanor and park coverEleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

I’m really hoping that this book actually does become a movie because I think it’s important that there be more love stories like this in the world. Eleanor and Park embrace each other’s flaws and imperfect pasts, and that’s the sort of message we need to be spreading about love. Too often movies depict romance as being between two seemingly perfect people, but this book breaks that stereotype completely.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan coverWill Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan

There haven’t been many teen romance movies made about the LGBTQ+ community, but I think a movie adaptation of this book could change that. It’s hilarious, clever, and has musical numbers that are simply made for the big screen. Fans of John Green would also love it because he co-wrote the book.

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson coverAmy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Can somebody say “the perfect summer romance movie”? Not only is this book adorable, but it also has a really valuable message about overcoming fear and opening yourself up to others. It would be one of those feel-good movies that you watch when you’re feeling down, and I think it would be great to have more of those in the theaters. Besides, who doesn’t love a good road-trip story?

Suspense

The Secret History by Donna TarttThe Secret History by Donna Tartt

This movie would be super cool because the story is just so different. It has this ethereal vibe to it that would give the movie adaptation a creepy, suspenseful tone. Although you know from the very beginning that a murder eventually occurs, the way the story is laid out makes you really want to know who exactly did it and why. And there is such an unexpected twist at the ending- I never saw it coming!

the night circus coverThe Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This movie wouldn’t be suspenseful in the traditional way, I don’t think. It’s not a heart-racing sort of mystery- rather, the pace is so relaxed that you know that at some point something is bound to happen all at once. The special effects and set design for a movie adaptation has the potential to be phenomenal, because the circus is such a mysterious and intricate setting. The cover of the book itself even looks like it could be a movie poster!

the ocean at the end of the laneThe Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

Oh, this wonderfully bizarre little book! I think it would make a great movie, with its strange creatures and fantastical elements. It would definitely be creepy and suspenseful if they set the mood right, because the magical elements of the book were awesome to read about. I feel like it’s the kind of movie that would have really good music as well, probably something orchestral and eery. Someone, scoop this story up and make it a film!

What books would you like to see made into movies? What do you think about the books on my list? What are some of your favorite movie adaptations? Let me know in the comments section below!

Yours,

HOLLY

  1. Such great choices!

I have night circus on my list too! Saw it on many other lists. I’m so happy it’s getting so much love!

Oh! The ocean at the end of the lane! I so agree this would make a good movie. I hope the movie would be able to capture the tone and mood of the book.

I agree that Eleanor and park would be a great choice too!

    1. Right! I hadn’t realized that so many people loved The Night Circus- I just read it this past winter, but before that I hadn’t really heard anyone talk about it all that much in the book blogging world. Maybe I just missed that train haha

  2. I just need an Anna and the French Kiss movie. Lola and Isla too. They would be amazing (if done right and with the right cast of course!). Rainbow Rowell is writing (or maybe she has finished already) the script for an E&P movie isn’t she? I don’t know if that immediately means there’s going to be a movie, but it’s a close step 😀 The Ocean at the End of the Lane would be an incredible movie as well! Great list, I haven’t read all of them, but those I have would make amazing movies 🙂

    1. Yay for Night Circus! Seriously, it would be so amazing. The circus itself, the awesome characters, the cool special effects that could be done- why hasn’t someone made this already?

  3. These Broken Stars nearly made my list! I loved Tarver and Lilac soo much and hopefully, they would make the second novel into a movie as well. Can’t wait for the last book to come out! I haven’t actually read any other books from your list, but at least half of them are on my TBR, like Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour.
    Lovely list!

    1. You should definitely read them, they’re awesome! I would highly recommend every single book in that list- they’re all great for their own reasons, it just depends what you’re in the mood for. Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour is an awesome summer read, though, so that’s perfect for this time of year!

Happy reading, and thanks so much for stopping by! 😀

  4. I think I heard that These Broken Stars was maybe going to be a TV show, but I haven’t heard anything lately, so I’m not sure if the project will take off. I’d love to see A Darker Shade of Magic made into a movie. It has the potential to be amazing.
