I loved this single sentence from the very moment I read it in R.J. Palacio’s lovely novel Wonder. I read the Spanish translation of this novel, so the fact that this sentence still stuck out so strongly to me in another language is really telling of how meaningful it is. If Auggie was right and everyone got a standing ovation at least once in their lives, I think that people would have more confidence in themselves. Perhaps people would come to appreciate the support of others more, for when you get a standing ovation it isn’t likely that you know every single person in the crowd. I adore Auggie’s positivity and compassion- the world could definitely use more people with Auggie’s optimistic attitude!
