In two weeks I’ll be moving into my very first college dorm room, and I am so excited!! I’ll be attending Wheaton College in Norton, MA, and you can read more about my decision to attend this school here. Today is a post I’ve been waiting to create for AGES: a college supplies haul! Here are some of the things that will be coming with me when I finally make the move:
Backrest Pillow – Kohl’s
I plan on using this for reading and blogging while bed. Doesn’t it just look so comfy?
Bamboo Bunk Shelf – Bed Bath & Beyond
I don’t know how high my bed will be or if I’ll end up lofting it, but just in case I bought this nifty gadget. It hooks onto the edge of your bed so you can put your phone, alarm clock, book, or other objects on it.
Pillows – Pier 1 Imports
I saw these pillows and I just couldn’t resist buying them. Owls are my favorite animals, and I love the colors on the other one.
Shower Caddy – PBteen
When I slept over for orientation and took a shower, I quickly learned how useful a shower caddy would be! You can fit quite a bit in this one, and the fabric feels pretty water resistant. Plus, it has polka dots!
Surge II Backpack – The North Face
I needed backpack that would fit my MacBook, and I love the turquoise accents on this one! It’s really comfortable to wear and holds so much stuff. Freshman backpack, here I come!
Glass Jar – Marshalls
Complete with a fun chalkboard label that you can write on, this glass jar is perfect for holding my tea bags! Although I have a feeling I’m going to need to bring a bit more with me…
Small Standing Mirror – Marshalls
I wear contacts sometimes, so I intend to use this whenever I need to put them in. It’s super small and cute!
What do you think of my haul? There’s a lot more stuff that I didn’t include, mainly because it’s all packed away in my room for move in day and it’s a hassle to get it out. I’ll most likely be doing a little dorm room tour when I finally get settled. If that’s something you would be interested in seeing, let me know!
What things did you bring to college, or what do you plan on bringing? Any advice? Do you want to see more college-related posts? Let me know in the comments section below!
Yours,
HOLLY
I never had the college dorm experience (in Portugal we mainly stay home for the duration of college), but those seem like pretty essential and great stuff to have. The owl pillow is gorgeous, and that shelf is something else (I have to go look for something similar).
Good luck with the move and I hope all goes well 😉

Thanks! 🙂 That’s cool that you stay home, though. You must save a lot of money that way!

I guess, though the system is completely different. Some people do move to attend college, but Portugal is rather small, so the distances are not super big

I just realised I need nearly everything on this list! I’m a bit behind on packing as I won’t find out for definite what college I’m going to until Monday (not the most organised system in the world), and I’m hopefully coming home almost every weekend – so I won’t need to buy too much.
Best of luck with your move and college 🙂
Also I feel I should introduce myself because I’ve never commented on your blog before (I think I’ve been following it for a few weeks). I’m also a bookish, nut-allergic girl so it’s right up my alley 🙂

I hope you get into the college you want! That’s so exciting! 🙂
And hi! That’s so funny that we both have nut allergies! (I mean, I guess it’s not haha funny, but it’s definitely a coincidence!). I followed your blog as well, and I absolutely love its name! And it’s so cool that you’re from Ireland- it’s on my list of places to go someday!

Great haul! Is that the zen tazo tea in the jar? My favorite! I loved the mirror and the pillow thing, great ideas!

It is!! I love it so much. Tazo tea is so light and refreshing, and perfect for when you just need a little pick-me-up. 🙂

Oooh that backrest pillow looks so comfortable! And that shower caddy is really useful! I always hate public showers because I either drop something on the floor, or it just gets wet because of the shower. And yay for owls 😀 Looks like your dorm is going to be comfy! Good luck with packing and moving 🙂

Thanks! 🙂 Yeah, the public bathroom situation is something I’m definitely not looking forward to. It was fine at orientation and everything, but I feel like it’ll get old reaaaally quickly. The dorm bathrooms at my college are also co-ed, so that should be interesting. At least my dorm room will be cozy, though!

I understand! Woah I had no idea co-ed bathrooms were a thing…
Yeah at least your dorm room will feel homey 😀

I love the surge II backpack! There are so many different compartments! I have it in a different color.
Good luck with your first year! I’m on my third and it flies by fast! Freshman year is the best though. Make sure you leave your dorm door open when you’re moving in and even a few days after. People will come in your room and introduce themselves. It’s a great way to make some friends!

I’m glad to hear that you like that backpack! There are so many to choose from and I wasn’t really sure which one to get.
That’s a good piece of advice! I’ll have to remember it for when I move in… in just 2 weeks! It’s so nerve-racking, but really exciting at the same time!

I definitely need a backrest pillow! And the bamboo bunk shelf looks really useful! I think my roommate would like it because she’s on the top bunk on our bunk bed.

That bamboo shelf makes me so excited, it’s not even funny. I don’t even know if I’ll be in a top bunk, but I think it would be handy to have either way. Whoever thought of it is a genius! 🙂

All of these things look really useful! My back pillow got a ton of use in college, and a shower caddy is essential for communal bathrooms. It’s also great to have tea close at hand! Good luck with the move into the dorm; it’s such an exciting time.

Thanks! 🙂 I didn’t even think of bringing a backrest pillow until my mom pointed it out at a store. Now that I think of it, though, it’ll be so nice when I’m reading in bed!

I had a pillow like that in college too – it was the best! My son has one on his bed now, it’s perfect for reading in bed. Hmm, maybe I need another one of my own? Around here (NC) they are known as husband pillows.
