“A butterfly could flap its wings and set molecules of air in motion, which would move other molecules of air, in turn moving more molecules of air— eventually capable of starting a hurricane on the other side of the planet.” ~ The Butterfly Effect by Andy Andrews
This quote is from an inspiring little book called The Butterfly Effect by Andy Andrews. Not only is it a great metaphor for how our small actions impact the world around us, but it’s also a really interesting scientific theory. The best part about this is that scientists actually proved that it’s true! It’s a principle of Chaos Theory, which “deals with nonlinear things that are effectively impossible to predict or control, like turbulence, weather, the stock market, our brain states, and so on”. (I’m not really sure about the specifics of it, but if you’re interested I found a great website about it that has more info.)
Apparently, butterflies can cause hurricanes! Who knew?
