Summer 2015: A Wrap-Up

triple banded

Summer is almost over- can you believe it? While I’ve been excited for this summer to end, I’ve also sort of been hoping it would last a little longer. So many mixed feelings! But don’t worry, I won’t bore you with those- instead, let’s see how well I did with my summer goals!

Summer 2015 TBR

According to my original Summer 2015 TBR post, these are the books that I wanted to read back in June. In total, I’ve read 5 of them.

  1. The Lost World by Michael Crichton
  2. Harry Potter y la cámara secreta by J.K. Rowling
  3. Something by Shakespeare (King Lear)
  4. Let’s Get Lost by Adi Alsaid
  5. Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver
  6. The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
  7. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
  8. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
  9. Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
  10. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares

I think that reading half of this list is pretty good, considering I made it several months about at the very start of summer. My reading taste is very dependent upon my mood at the time, so I knew that I wouldn’t be sticking to my TBR one hundred percent. I’m actually sort of surprised that I was able to read half of these!

Books I Read that Are Not on My Summer TBR List:

  1. The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson
  2. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
  3. The Butterfly Effect by Andy Andrews
  4. Vicious by V.E. Schwab
  5. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
  6. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
  7. The Reader by Bernhard Schlink
  8. Macbeth by William Shakespeare
  9. Our Town by Thornton Wilder
  10. The Martian by Andy Weir

I read some really amazing books this summer, but my favorite has to be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. This book, people, THIS BOOK. It’s now on my top five favorite books ever, if not my favorite book of all time (so far!). I cannot recommend it enough!!

Reviews of all of these books to come!

Other Goals – Original Post HERE

Read at least 15 books. Somehow I managed to read exactly fifteen books! To be honest, I expected that I would easily surpass this goal, but I guess I was a lot busier this summer than I thought I would be. Preparing for college, working, and interning sure does take up a lot of time! Still, I’m really pleased with the amount of books I was able to read. I owe a lot of it to the BookTubeAThon, during which I read five of them!

Read at least 2 books in Spanish. So I wasn’t able to complete this challenge fully, but I did FINALLY finish reading Harry Potter y la cámara secreta by J.K. Rowling! I had been reading that book for months on end, but I finally just sat down and decided to power through it. Reading is always slower going when I read in Spanish, so it took me quite a while. But I did it!

Get ahead with book reviews. I am SO AHEAD with book reviews now, and it feels so good! I hate when I have to rush around and hurriedly write a review to post it at the last second, because I feel as though I forget a lot of what I wanted to say. Now I can take my time and leisure write more book reviews, at least for a while!

Organize my photo album. Completing this goal required me printing out 133 photos at the store, putting them in chronological order, and then making sure they all fit in my photo albums. It was a lot of tedious work, but it definitely paid off!

Work on my Wreck This Journal. I didn’t do a lot of pages this summer, but  I’m really pleased with the ones that I did do! I have one more that I’ll be posting in the next few weeks, but I did post Sewing… Paper? and The Kind of Bugs I Actually Like. Feel free to have a look!

Finish watching through the 3rd season of Lost. I am currently in the middle of the third season, so I did make significant progress! IT IS SO GOOD. As always, you can keep up to date with my progress by following @peanutfreeisme on Twitter and the hashtag #hollywatcheslost.

Watch more movies. Watching movies has never been my forte- for some reason, I just never get around to it! I did watch a few more movies than usual, though, including Jurassic WorldThe DUFF, Jane Eyre, Jurassic Park, and The Lost World. I really enjoyed them all, and reviews are on their way!

Go outside more. Yes! I went to the beach several times this summer, kayaked, went camping, and even took my books outside to read. Here is some photo evidence!

Relax! Was I always relaxed this summer? Of course not! But I did make a conscious effort to simply lounge around and do what I enjoy. It’s summer, after all!

This summer was honestly the strangest summer ever. I felt like I was in limbo between high school and college the entire time, which isn’t a pleasant feeling! But what really helped me was knowing that I’m not alone- all of my friends were experiencing similar emotions, as were many fellow book bloggers. Thanks so much for all of your support and well wishes! ❤

I hope you’ve all had a great summer! Now, ON WITH AUTUMN!

How was your summer? Did you achieve your goals, bookish and otherwise? Let me know in the comments section below!

  1. Yay for summer. Looks like you tackled a lot of your goals, congrats! I done one of these posts and I think I may have only stuck to one of them, oops. I guess one is better than doing none and I still have 5 days left to start the others – haha. There’s always next summer 🙂

    1. Thanks! 🙂 You’re right, one is definitely better than none of them! I didn’t really expect to accomplish many of these, so it’s a pleasant surprise!

      1. Always lovely when you accomplish more than you set out to do. I’m heading out on a run tonight with my brother which means I can cross 2 of my summer bucket list – hurrah! 🙂

    1. Thanks! 🙂 I feel the same way- the process of making goals is motivating and worthwhile, even if I don’t actually achieve them in the long run. At least I have something to work towards that way!

  2. Despite not all goals being checked off you managed to achieve quite a lot of them and for that I applaud you! 😀 Your summer sounds great – which only affirms the fact that you’ll probably (fingers crossed) have a great autumn ahead of you too too.

  3. It sounds like you had an amazing summer! Congratulations on completing all your goals. I’m so jealous of all the outdoor activities you got to do! Kayaking sounds super fun 🙂 I hope you have a great time at college and a super autumn ❤
