Top Ten Tuesday: New Authors I Read in 2016

Happy Tuesday! Now that December is here, it’s that time again when we start reflecting on the past year and all of the wonderful books we read. This week we’re focusing on the writers of those wonderful books by sharing the Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2016. Thanks to all of the assigned reading that I have to do for my classes and awesome recommendations from friends, I have been introduced to a lot of great writers whose work I might not have otherwise picked up.

Overall, I read work by some amazing new-to-me authors this year, and I can’t wait to see what new authors 2017 will bring!

What are your favorite authors that you read for the first time this year? What do you think of the authors on my list? Any other books by them that you would recommend? Let me know in the comments section below!

    1. Slaughterhouse Five is fantastic! It’s bizarre and a little confusing at times, but I’ve never read such an interesting and unique blend of history, science fiction, and dark humor. I hope you enjoy it whenever you get around to reading it!

  1. I love Emery Lord! I’ve read all of her books so far and I’m so excited for more. It’s so hard to pick a favorite out of her books because they’re all so incredible, but I keep coming back to The Start of Me and You. I really want to reread that sometime soon! And I’m reading a Willa Cather book right now – The Professor’s House. It’s kind of slow so far, but I’m not even halfway into it so I’m hoping I’ll like it more as I go along.

    1. I’ve never heard of the two books you mentioned, so I’ll definitely have to check them out! The only book by Emery Lord I’ve ever read is When We Collided, but I’d love to read more of her work. Thanks for the recommendations! 🙂

    1. You’re so lucky that you get to read it in school! I always felt as though my English teachers over the years could have picked more interesting classics to teach us…. anyways, I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

    1. I’ve only read When We Collided by Emery Lord, so I’ll have to check out Open Road Summer. Also, I completely agree about wanting to read The Awakening. I read it last semester and already I think it would be really interesting to go back and read it now that I know how it ends. Anyways, happy reading! 🙂

    1. I listened to the audio book of Wild over the summer and really enjoyed it. Not only is she a great writer, but her story is so inspiring! I love hiking mountains in general, so I also had a lot of fun learning about the gritty details of her adventure. Also, I definitely recommend My Antonia! 🙂

  2. A lot of classic authors! Most of these books are on my TBR – hopefully I can get around to them soon. Congrats on trying so many new authors.
