Happy Tuesday! I hope you’re all doing well after the holiday season. I know that I always feel a bit blue, but Top Ten Tuesday never fails to cheer me up. This week I’ll be sharing the Top Ten Books I Meant to Read in 2016 But Didn’t Get To. My list of books was so long that it was actually kind of difficult to narrow it down… but I managed!
What are some books that you meant to read in 2016 but never got around to? What do you think of the books I mentioned? Which one of these should I put at the top of my list? Let me know in the comments section below!
Yours,
HOLLY
I like the combination of newer and older literature in your list. Are these all planned for your reading list of 2017?
From your list, I’m also planning to read A Gathering of Shadows. I wasn’t a big fan of book 1, I liked the premise but it didn’t click for me, I’ve read 1 chapter of A Gathering of Shadows and it already seems much more to my taste!

Yes, I’m hoping to read at least most of these in 2017! Fingers crossed 🙂
I always feel like the second book in a series tends to drag a bit in comparison with the first book, so it’s good to hear that you think A Gathering of Shadows will be better! I hope you enjoy it!

I hope so too! Haha. And fingers crossed indeed, least you already have a good set of books to get you through the year!

Oh, if you do read The Next Together & Carry On then I hope you enjoy them! To be honest, I feel like there are probably many books I intended to read in 2016, but I just either ended up not getting hold of them or forgetting to read them. WHOOPS. Hopefully this year!

A nice mix of older and newer titles! I loved The Shining so I really hope you get to it soon! Oh and Sense and Sensibility is one of my favorite classics.

I’m about half way through The Shining at the moment and it’s SO GOOD. I can definitely see how it differs from the movie adaptation, but so far I’ve been surprised at how many details are actually the same. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish it this weekend 🙂

Haha, I have a similar post scheduled in a few days! I second shaunkellett about liking the mix of old and new books on this list, too. 😊
I also want to read Carry On, A Gathering of Shadows (well… after I read the FIRST book in that series!), Little Women, and Sense & Sensibility!

Oooh, I hope you enjoy A Darker Shade of Magic!! Although Vicious is currently my favorite V.E. Schwab book, A Darker Shade of Magic is still fantastic. ❤

I’m planning on reading Sense and Sensibility this month! It’s one that’s been on my TBR for WAY too long. And I really want to read The Quartet, too! I read Founding Brothers a couple of years ago and really loved it, so I’m really excited to get around to more of his books. Here’s my TTT.

Ahh it’s so exciting to hear that someone else loved Founding Brothers, too! It’s rare that I hear anyone talking about it in the the blogging community. Joseph J. Ellis is such a fantastic historian and writer. I definitely need to read The Quartet ASAP!

Oh man I do not have the guts to read The Shining hahah. I’ve been wanting to read more Jane Austen books, so far I’ve just read Pride and Prejudice. Great list. I hope you end up reading these books this year

I’m about halfway through The Shining right now and it’s so good! It’s a little creepy, but personally I think the movie adaptation is much scarier. Still, it’s not something I would recommend reading right before bed haha 🙂

Ok, I love the format for your post. It’s so cute! I haven’t read any of these (or a majority of ‘classic’ literature in general) but particularly AGOS. I read ADSOM last March, and wasn’t as thrilled with it as I had anticipated. That was a total bummer, and happened throughout the rest of the year. 😛 I do hope you get to read most, if not all of these this year! 🙂
Here’s my TTT if you’re interested.

Thank you!! ❤ I enjoyed ADSOM, but I definitely liked V.E. Scwab's novel Vicious more. Someone told me that they think the series gets better as it goes with AGOS, so fingers crossed that's true!
Happy reading in 2017! 🙂

I’ve heard the same thing! I’m going to read AGOS with an open mind, but I’m definitely looking forward to it. ☺️

I’ve only read Sense and Sensibility on this list. I don’t think it’s Austen’s best, but it is still very enjoyable. I hope you won’t be disappointed once you get around to it! And I really wanted to read Carry On, too! It would have been my first Rainbow Rowell book, but I guess I’ll have to get around to it sometime this year, hopefully during my spring semester! I hope you manage to read all these books this year, though 😀

If you haven’t read anything else by Rainbow Rowell, then I highly recommend Eleanor & Park, Attachments, and Fangirl. They’re all adorable and well-written and lovely ❤

I’ll be sure to check those out! Thanks for the recommendations, Holly! I’m really looking forward to picking one of them up 😀

On the Other Side is so pretty! I’ve never heard of it. What’s it about? I need to read Little Women and Sense and Sensibility. I also plan on reading Carry On and the A Darker Shade of Magic series! Oh, and the cover for Middlemarch is just SO gorgeous ❤

I don’t know much about the story specifically (I like going in blind) but I know it’s a romance and I think there are sort of magical elements to it? I’m a big fan of Carrie Hope Fletcher’s Youtube channel so I’ve been looking forward to reading her book for a while now. ❤
