Happy Tuesday! Today I’m here to share an incredibly positive bookish list with you all that will hopefully brighten your day with some recommendations. Usually I try to begin reading a book with an open mind, but it’s inevitable that there will be some initial expectations floating around. Fortunately, I’ve read countless books that I’ve ended up loving so much more than I first thought I would. Without further ado, here are ten books that have exceeded my expectations:

  1. One Hundred Years of Solitude looks like it would be a good read, but I always read the blurb and think..hmmm not too sure. I like Zafon’s books and they are meant to be similar, so I may give it a try!

    1. I feel that way about a lot of books, too! I’m so afraid that my expectations will be impossibly high and that the book won’t be able to live up to them. Sometimes it’s hard to go into something with a completely open, unbiased mind.

    1. I completely agree with you– One Hundred Years of Solitude is a big commitment! I’ve never heard of Three Daughters of Eve before, so I’ll have to check it out. 🙂

    1. I actually really disliked Faulkner after first reading The Sound and the Fury, but after letting the book stew in my mind for a while I felt the urge to return to his writing again and again. More than anything I think his writing and stories are just so interestingly constructed. I hope you enjoy Night Circus! 🙂

  2. Illuminae exceeded my expectations, too! I went it with very low expectations and was completely blown away. I’ve read Amie’s Kaufman’s other YA sci-fi series and didn’t like it, so I assumed that Illuminae would be kind of lame and romance-heavy. Instead, I loved the characters, the format, and all the twists!

    1. Same!! I also never predicted the direction that the story would end up going in. It was completely different from what I expected it to be, but in the best way! I love the unique format of the book itself and the incredible amount of suspense. I honestly couldn’t put it down! I really need to read Gemina ASAP! 🙂

  3. I loved The Night Circus, I liked the Handmaid’s Tale too but I’d heard so many good things about it I think my expectations were a bit too high.

Illuminae I want to read but I’ve heard so many good things about it I’m worried I’ll be a bit disappointed.
