Top Ten Tuesday: General Excitement

Happy Tuesday!! The lovely bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish have decided that this week’s Top Ten Tuesday theme involves our most anticipated upcoming 2017 releases. However, as I sat down to make my list I realized that I don’t actually know any books being released soon. It’s not that books aren’t being released in the next six months or so; rather, I’ve been stuck so deep in the hole that is college course work that I haven’t been paying much attention to bookish happenings lately.

In short: I’m literally not anticipating any upcoming releases.

Now you understand my current dilemma. What does one do when you’re unable to even begin making a Top Ten Tuesday list on the appropriate theme? *gasp* THE HORROR.

Instead, I’m going to talk about Ten Things That I’m Generally Excited About. Sound like a good compromise? (I’m going through with it regardless, so here we go!)

I’m really looking forward to relaxing and reading a lot this summer (and working, but that can be fun, right?). For me, summer also means spending a lot of time with family, which is something I haven’t gotten to do a lot recently because of school.

I’m determined to visit some of my friends from college this summer. It’s difficult because we all live in different states, but I know that we can make it work somehow! I miss them too much not to see them for such a long time. ❤

You might be asking yourself: Why on Earth is this girl excited about cleaning her bedroom? The answer to this is that moving back home after living away at college means that you accumulate a lot of extra stuff that suddenly all has to fit in one space instead of two. It’s taken me quite a while, but I’ve finally managed to clear out a lot of my old stuff and organize everything so I can actually see the floor, work at my desk, and open my closet door without causing an avalanche.

I’ve been journaling pretty consistently since around March and I’ve loved keeping a regular record of what’s been happening in my life. I even purchased some colorful highlighters, pens, and washi tape (my new love) to spice things up. {If you have any recommendations for good places to buy washi tape, definitely let me know!}

It’s almost been an entire year since I first started my bookstagram account (@nutfreenerd) and I’m having so much fun with it. I can’t wait to take some summery pictures outside now that the weather is finally nice!

Contributing to my excitement about bookstagram is the fact that my brother was recently kind enough to gift me his old camera since he purchased a new one not too long ago. I’ve never had a *fancy* camera before, so I’m really excited to start taking more photos!!

I’m currently in the middle of watching the original Twin Peaks series (NO SPOILERS, PLEASE!!) and I love it so much. I’m trying to finish it ASAP because I MUST know who killed Laura Palmer!!

I have an hour commute back and forth from work every day in the summer, which translates to A LOT of time to listen to music. Lately I’ve been loving bird.bird, Watsky, the Dear Evan Hansen cast recording, and the Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 soundtrack (what is my music taste?!?!?!).

I’ve been home for about two weeks and it’s amazing how much reading I’ve been able to do!! I can’t even express how great it feels to have time to read outside of class again. I miss it so much when I’m at school!

Similarly, I’ve also had a lot more time to blog since I’ve been home. During the semester I’m able to squeak in just enough blogging time to keep my blog updated, but not enough to write longer posts, in-depth reviews, post more frequently, or read and comment on other blogs. But now I’m BACK and ready to blog!! ❤

What are you generally excited for at the moment? Also, PLEASE tell me what books you’re anticipating for the rest of 2017 because I definitely need to be updated!

Yours,

HOLLY

  1. I’m so excited for the summer break BECAUSE ICECREAM AND FRIENDS!
I love journalling too, it’s so awesome and no I’m going to have some wonderful memories to write about because summer is always so eventful! I’m horrible at photography even with a decent camera, though I can’t wait for more time to read, blog, and to write!

    1. YES to ice cream and friends!! Finding ice cream I can eat is sometimes tricky because of my allergy, but I think I know of a few great places nearby where I can go. Vanilla soft serve is usually a safe bet, fortunately! ❤

  2. This was great! I’m so glad you’ll finally have time to spend with family and friends.
Coming from someone who’s moved in and out of her parents’ house many times, I really hope you achieve your goal of cleaning your room. Trust me, you’ll regret it if you don’t. Moving to Germany was such a pain, with years worth of things to go through. xD
I love your bookstagram account, so I’m excited that you got a new camera! (Not that your pictures need it, haha.)
I watched Twin Peaks recently, too. I did enjoy it, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything weirder in my life.

    1. Thanks so much! ❤
OMG I completely agree about Twin Peaks– it's SO BIZARRE. I thought Doctor Who was strange, but Twin Peaks definitely takes the cake. There are so many weird characters and scenes and awkward silences. Thankfully it's the sort of weird that makes it almost charmingly funny and cheesy instead of unbearably cringy. 🙂

    1. Those kinds of cameras are perfect because they’re not too fancy and difficult to use but they still take quality photos. I was so grateful and surprised when my brother passed his old one down to me– I definitely owe him a million ice cream cones 🙂

  3. I love that you’re journaling. I’ve kept one since 6th grade. Which means I have over a 100 journals. Which will be fun in about a month when we have to move said journals to our new house. *GROANS* But I’m glad you picked up the practice. I tend to get my washi tape from Michaels b/c I’m cheap and they have excellent choices and excellent coupons. haha. They also have these huge packs of childrens stckers for $1. 🙂 Right now I’m using Disney stickers in my journal. haha.

    1. OH MY GOODNESS 100 JOURNALS?! Where do you keep them all??? That’s such a great record of memories, though. Also, Michaels washi tape is my jam 🙂 I never thought to buy stickers there, but I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for some cute ones!

      1. Haha on my bookshelves. Or I did. They are in boxes now bc we are moving this month. But I like to display them bc ppl ask ab them. Plus rereading them is always good for a laugh if I pick the eighth year. 😜

  4. Dear Evan Hansen is so good! What is your favorite song?
The book release that I’m most anticipating is Nightfall, by Shannon Messenger. It’s part of the Keeper of the Lost Cities series, which is middle grade. I absolutely adore those books, no matter how much heartbreak they cause me. 😉
Oh, the life of a fangirl.

    1. Ooooh, that’s such a difficult question!! I think my favorite Dear Evan Hansen song would probably have to be Waving Through a Window because it’s the one I find myself listening to the most. I also really love Requiem, Only Us, and Words Fail ❤

  5. I am generally excited about summer (yess to reading and more blogging time) and not having to think about responsibilites for a little bit. I’m also excited about going hiking. Yeah, I don’t really know which books are coming up either, but I’m excited about reading Replica, Sapiens and Strange the Dreamer.

    1. I love hiking in the summer!! I don’t go as often as I’d like anymore because I usually hike with my dad and we’re both busy working now, but those few times that we do go are fantastic ❤

    1. On the Road is such a great book! The carefree spirit of the story makes it perfect for reading during the summertime. I’ve never read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, but it’s on my TBR.
Happy vacation to you as well! 🙂

    1. Summer breaks from university are the best because unlike high school you really don’t have any summer work to worry about– just three months of pure joy ❤ Happy summer!

  6. Nice idea – I turned the list on it’s head too. I’m excited about a folk festival I’m going to in a couple of weeks’ time. As well as the different stages, there is a funfair every. single. day. I’ve just ordered some books on story structure – my deal was I finish 20 short stories before buying them. I’m really looking forward to these, because it took me a few weeks.

My TTT is at – https://bookmurmuration.wordpress.com/2017/05/30/ten-books-i-absolutely-must-read-from-my-shelves-before-i-buy-a-single-book/.

    1. That folk festival sounds like so much fun!! I’ve always wanted to go to one 🙂 Also, your idea to write 20 stories before buying a book about writing stories is such a good motivator. I might have to steal that strategy sometime!
