Happy Tuesday!! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is technically about book series that I want to start; however, the more pressing issue on my mind is the fact that there are SO MANY series that I need to FINISH. Once again I’m going to break the TTT status quo and switch it up a little by sharing the Top Ten Series I Need to Finish.Β
What series do you really need to finish? What do you think of the books that I’ve mentioned? Let me know in the comments section below!
Yours,
HOLLY

Oh goodness, I need to start the Illuminae and the Darker Shade of Magic… o.0

Those are two awesome books!! Illuminae has such a unique format and A Darker Shade of Magic has some amazing world-building centered around London. I hope you enjoy them!

The Giver was one of my favourite books as a child. I had no idea there were more! Must find!

Same I always thought it was a standalone??? Mind = blown! I read it foooorever ago, but I really enjoyed it. I’ll have to check those out!

Right?!?!?! I feel like no one ever really talks about the other books, which is a shame.

Yes! I’m not sure if this series follows the same characters as The Giver or if they are more like companion novels within the same world, but I’m intrigued nevertheless. π

I NEED to finish the Shades of Magic series and read the last book in the Starbound trilogy! I suck at continuing/finishing series!

Same!! Finishing a series is a rare occurrence for me these days. But I’m determined to finish the Shades of Magic series this summer!

I’m currently reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I’m just… not impressed. I’m told the series gets better though, so I’m hoping they’re right and that it’ll be worth it if I stick with it?? But if you have trouble getting through the first book, just know that it’s apparently a common problem!

I had the same reaction, and I read the whole series. Not saying you should give up because you might be one of the ones who loves it. But IMO it was very overrated.

I’m going to see how I feel at the end of book 1 and evaluate then. I’m spending most of the book rolling my eyes. The plot is finally getting interesting, but I find none of the characters compelling!

Yeah that was my response too. Even Lisbeth, who everyone said was so interesting, As for Blomkvist, at times I really hated him!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is definitely a chunky, slow-moving book, but the climax at the end makes it all worth it! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series if you read it π

Oh, I loved the Giver Quartet! I’ve been trying to push myself to finish the Darkest Minds trilogy – I only have the last book to go – but I’ve been putting it off because I just don’t want it to end.π

I’m so glad you loved the Giver Quartet!! I never really hear anyone talking about it in the blogging community so I always wonder how it is.

Series I need to finish is a HUGE list. But in my defense several of my favorites are still in progress so not all books are out yet.

Waiting for series to be finished is the worst, especially when the book you recently finished leaves off on a cliffhanger

The Ender’s game series was well worth my time. Extraordinary books.

And of course The Time Quintet. I read the first two of the Giver Series; didn’t know there were more. π

There was a dynamite series in the 80’s and 90’s about the inner workings of a Christian church by a well known author from that time – SUsan Howatch. Reads like literature and really explores human nature.

That series sounds super interesting! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation! π

The Giver quartet is INSANELY good. Unfortunately, the Time Quintet didn’t live up to the hype for me. It’s just… so…. weird, I guess. But if you like weird, you should give it a shot!

I totally get what you mean about the Time Quintet! I think I’ve read up to the third book and it’s just such a bizarre story… but I feel like I should at least try to finish it because I’ve already made it this far π

I finished Shades of Magic recently, and it was fantastic. I have been meaning to read The Infernal Devices forever but I plan to read it by the end of the year.
Good luck with these series! Awesome list.

It’s so good to hear that you loved the Shades of Magic series! I’ve heard amazing things about it and I really enjoyed the first book, so I can’t wait to read the rest π

I loved The Giver and Ender series. The second one in Ender is the best, with Giver it’s harder to choose. I read Viscous and have been meaning to read more of Schwab’s work.

I need to finish the Shades Of Magic series too? I’ve only read ADSOM so far

SAME. I loved ADSOM but just haven’t gotten around to reading the other books yet. I really want to this summer, though!

I’m pretty much caught up on all the series I follow. Just finished Sandman Slim’s last book yesterday and I’m reading Moonbreaker today, by Simon R. Green. This Green series isn’t as good as his finished Nightside books. They were fantastic. This series is just okay in comparison. I’m going to check out some of your suggestions. No to the girl with the dragon tattoo, however. I haven’t met anyone who liked it.

Ahhh congrats on being all caught up! That’s so awesome!! I feel like I’ll never be completely caught up with the series I’d ideally like to read– there are just so many π

It’s so hard when you don’t come in at the beginning. I was fortunate. I started right away, with my favorites. Some series just fall away, becoming too repetitive, or they just run out of steam. I’ve read a few where the ending makes me sorry I even bothered reading all the books. If you started reading the two series I mentioned you would be looking at 29 books right away, so that’s a lot to read in order to catch up.

I did buy the ILLUMINAE, so thank you. It’s looks great.

Ahhh I can’t wait to finish that series either! If the rest is anything like the first book than it’s going to be FANTASTIC. π

Awesome list! Shades of Magic is pretty much my all time favorite series (along with the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness). I’m working on catching up & finishing Across the Universe by Beth Revis…and I just started Sabaa Tahir’s Ember in the Ashes series & Throne of Glass..and others. So many series all the time. π

I haven’t heard of the All Souls Trilogy before but I’ll have to check it out. I just read An Ember in the Ashes but I don’t think I’m going to read the sequel.
Thanks!!

Ah yes, I definitely still have a huge list of series I still need to finish myself, such as the Starbound trilogy and the Illuminae files. π I finished the Shades of Magic series and absolutely loved it, so I hope you’ll still enjoy this one as well!

I have to finish those two series, too!! I know I’ll get swept up in them once I continue reading them and then it will take me no time at all, but it’s just the first step that always takes forever π

hehehe I wish the third Illuminae files book would come out so I could finish it!! π These are such awesome books- I really hope you enjoy Gemina and the rest of the Shades of Magic series- they were awesome. I definitely need to continue the ender’s game series at some point.

YES. Is the Illuminae files only going to be a trilogy?

A number of these should have been on my list as well. I’d forgotten that the Ender series was a series — I listened to a full cast audioplay of the Enders Game and left it there. Good luck finishing your series!

I’m planning on reading Illuminae next month and I’m super excited! (I actually have my own copy of it HALLELUJAH.) And I’m sort of torn on whether or not I should start These Broken Stars??? I mean it looks cool but like… it seems really focused on romance and I’m like AGH NO. AND YES ADSOM ADSOM IS GREAT. I mean I think ACOL and AGOS were the best but STILL.
LikeLiked by 1 person
These Broken Stars does have a lot of romance, but the outer space vibe is also really cool and I think each book follows different characters, so that could be interesting. I’ve only read the first book so fingers crossed that the rest are just as good! π

I totally need to read the rest of Illuminae and the Starbound books. I loved them so much but I just like didn’t continue to read them lol

SAME. That’s exactly how I am with V.E. Schwabs series. I’ve been saying for AGES that I need to read them as soon as possible but it just never happens haha π

Saaaame with Shades of Magic.
Illuminae and Gemina just BLEW MY MIND omg you gotta read it. It’s so unique and so amazing.
TID is a series that is just really close to my heart and I love it so much.

I LOVED Illuminae but haven’t picked up Gemina yet. The ending of Illuminae was SO GOOD though π

I still haven’t read anything by Schwab yet, I mist me one of the last readers to pick up one of her books. I absolutely loved Illuminae but haven’t read Gemina yet. They’re such physically MASSIVE books that you need to work yourself up to getting stuck into it. The Giver is another series I didn’t continue either actually, I must get to that one as well. Great choices, really enjoyed them.
Lovely to meet you through #SFATW

Do you intend to read the ‘new’ Millennium trilogy books or just the original 3? I’ve read the fourth (or first depending on how you look at it) which did a pretty good job of fitting into the others but was generally pretty unremarkable.

Probably just the original three, unless I hear something amazing about the new ones.

Oh gosh, you must make it a priority to finish The Infernal Devices! The second book is my favorite because Jem really shines in that one (and he’s my ultimate book bae), but the third book is rollercoaster of feels. :’)
