Happy Tuesday!! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is to share books set in another country; however, I’ve decided to mix it up a bit (when don’t I?). Instead, I’ll be sharing ten books that either take place in Australia or are written by Australian writers. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta sparked me to make this list because it satisfies both of those qualities. Needless to say, I definitely need to read more Australian books!
What are some of your favorite books that take place in Australia or are written by Australian writers? Any recommendations? Let me know in the comments section below!
Yours,
HOLLY

The Book Thief made my list this week, but I slowly ran out of books set in other countries! I like your take on the list this week, and you’ve reminded me I should probably pick up Illuminae pretty soon as well! Great post, here’s mine: https://bookmuffin.wordpress.com/2018/03/27/in-a-land-far-far-away/

I love Australian writers. My best friend is an Aussie and she often recommends them. Melina Marchetta is a favorite of mine. Have you ever read Isobelle Carmody, Kate Morton, Kate Forsyth, Peter Carey, Liane Moriarty, or Colleen McCollough? If not I’d recommend them all. Here’s my TTT https://franlaniado.wordpress.com/2018/03/27/top-ten-tuesday-books-set-in-another-country/

Of this list I’ve only read Illuminae and The Book Thief. Though I have read one of Melina Marchetta’s fantasy books as well. I do think when it comes to the english speaking countries, Australia is often glossed over compared to UK and USA. So it is good to share some. 🙂

Definitely! I really want to read Melina Marchetta’s fantasy books sometime soon. If they’re anything like her other books, I know I’ll really enjoy them 🙂

I loved The Book Thief, but didn’t realize Zusak is Australian. Tomorrow, When The World Began looks interesting, but what’s it about?

Tomorrow, When the War Began is about a group of teenagers trying to survive in a war zone. It’s really good!!

Ahh, I’m such a typical American….I automatically assumed that Book Thief and Illuminae were written by American authors. *hides in shame* Awesome post! 😀

No worries! I’ve definitely assumed the same thing about different authors in the past. 🙂 Thanks!!

I really enjoyed Jane Harper’s book, The Dry.
Another really good one i read when i was in high school is called The Dreaming. It’s set in Australia, but written by an american author, Barbara Wood.

I really love Illuminae, of course! But Tomorrow, When the War Began sounds good too! I didn’t actually know some of these were Australian authors and learning books that are set in Australia are cool! I’ll have to add a few to my TBR… thanks for such a great twist on the topic Holly ❤

I didn’t know many of these authors were Australian either until I looked them up. So many great writers out there! 💜
