Happy Tuesday!! Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is the Top Ten Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In. Something tells me that there are plenty of unpleasant bookish settings to choose from and that most of these are pretty self-explanatory, so let’s jump right in!
What bookish worlds would you never want to live in? What do you think of the ones I’ve mentioned? Let me know in the comments section below!
Yours,
HOLLY

We totally share The Hunger Games. I could not do that world.

Right!! It would be SO terrifying. I’m definitely not aggressive/competitive/fearless enough for that!

Thank you!! The Handmaid’s Tale gets more and more terrifying every time I read it.

I definitely wouldn’t want to live in any of these settings! I actually did a list of places I would want to live (or visit) because that actually seemed harder in this case: https://franlaniado.wordpress.com/2018/05/29/top-ten-tuesday-bookish-worlds-where-youd-like-to-live-or-visit/

Oooh interesting twist on the topic! You’re right— so many books are about places that sound pretty unappealing to live in!

I feel that way about most fantasy worlds. Often the sense of threat is too ingrained to imagine the world without it.

Definitely not in The Hunger Games and Ready Player One too!

Agreed! Way too terrifying.

Agree with you completely on Hunger Games. But I would definitely add Nineteen Eighty Four to the list!

1984 is should definitely be added to the list! That’s one of the most unsettling books I’ve ever read.

Lord of the flies, if you can call the microcosm under “boy rule” a ” world.” Also just about any victorian novel if you are a woman in the 21 st century!

I love both of your additions! (Love as in I think they’re TERRIFYING.) 🙂

Oh gosh, I could never live in the world of the Hunger Games or Illuminae. I would never survive! LOL

Just thinking about The Road makes me squirm inside & I definitely agree with you on The Hunger Games & Illuminae as well. I don’t think I’d survive that experience (mentally and physically).
Great choices, Holly! 🙂

I feel the same way! I’m definitely not aggressive/competitive enough to survive something like the Hunger Games.

Love your choices, Holly! ❤ I wouldn't like to live in The Hunger Games and Illuminae's world either haha, I couldn't take it 😛

Thanks, Marie! Glad to hear I’m not the only one who would be in trouble 🙂

Oh gosh, I sincerely hope that we will never ever have to experience The Road’s world. It’s one of those books which I secretly love/hate. I need hope and the bleakness of Road’s vision is utterly depressing.
Hunger Games and War of the Worlds sound pretty horrible to me as well. I would not want to live in those either.
Man in the High Castle springs to my mind as a universe I wouldn’t want to live in either… and many King’s horrors would probably devastate me too. 😊
Great list, I’m still yet to read many of those other books and enjoy getting some ideas. Thanks. 😊

I’ve never read Man in the High Castle, but from your comments it can’t be an uplifting read! Thanks so much 🙂

I haven’t read all of these but those I have, I totally agree! I’m reading the poppy war at the moment and I love the story but i would NEVER want to live there.

Oooh I’ve never read The Poppy War. I’ll have to check it out the next time I’m in the mood for something a little strange 🙂

lol I’ve heard a running joke that the Hunger Games is becoming real here in Trump’s USA, with children having to march on the streets to fight for their rights (due to the high school shootings). But yeah, great list! Totally agree with Handmaid’s Tale and Dracula. 😉

I don’t even want to think about how scary that image is!! But I think you’re right on some level…. there definitely is that vibe!

A number of people picked Vicious. I have it on my TBR list. Agree with you about Handmaiden and Illuminae series. I in the middle of Gemina… I would of just died! Thanks for the great list!
