Top Ten Tuesday: Series I’ve Put On Hold

Happy Tuesday!! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic (determined by That Artsy Reader Girl) is generally about series and whether or not we’re going to finish them. If there’s one bookish tidbit you need to know about me, it’s that I’m usually awful at staying up to date with series (this also includes TV series… I’m always SO BEHIND). Even though I might fail from an execution standpoint, most of the time I really do have the best intentions to follow through to the end of a series. This week I’d like to share ten series that I do plan on finishing someday… I’ve just put on hold for now while I’m distracted by other things.

Which series have you given up on, momentarily or otherwise? What do you think of the series I’ve mentioned? Let me know in the comments section below!

Yours,

HOLLY

  1. I read These Broken Stars all the way through. The last book in the series got very weird… I didn’t care for The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo series, but if you liked the first book, you’ll probably like the others. I do recommend the other A Wrinkle in Time books though.

    1. Thanks for the recommendations! Watching the recent Wrinkle in Time film has made me want to continue reading the rest of the series soon… hopefully I get around to it this summer.

  2. These Broken Stars was quite enjoyable and I do plan to finish it someday. Illuminae is so amazing! I thought the last book was such a perfect ending. Vicious is on my TBR! I’ve only read the first Hitchhikers Guide story and I think I won’t continue. I loved the first one but I heard they only get stranger and wilder haha

    1. It’s so good to hear that you enjoyed These Broken Stars and Illuminae! I would DEFINITELY recommend Vicious–I read it years ago, but I still find myself thinking about it sometimes 🙂

  3. I read ADSOM last year and still haven’t picked up book two yet! I guess it’s because book one ended on a mildly satisfactory note that I’m in no rush to finish the series. Oh, and I just ordered Vicious from BD! So that’s exciting!

    1. Ahhh Vicious is SO GOOD. I read it ages ago and still find myself thinking about it sometimes… hope you enjoy it! 🙂 I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  4. I haven’t kept up with A Darker Shade of Magic or Illuminae, either, though I’d like to continue them at some point if the right mood strikes! I also haven’t kept up with The Raven Boys…in ways I feel guilty but in other ways I feel like it’s better to just read what you want at any given time! 🙂

    1. I definitely agree! If I force myself to read something I’m not in the mood for then I risk disliking a book simply for that reason, completely distinct from what I actually thought of the book itself. Sometimes it’s better to wait for the right time!

  5. I need to pick up Vicious again too. I put it away after a few pages because it wouldn’t grab me. But with Vengeful coming I want to give it another shot.
I really want to pick up some books by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. They seem like such an awesome writing duo.

  6. I’m with you on a lot of these (always forget that Hitchhiker’s Guide is a series. I love the first book, so I definitely need to check out the others. I even own them!). I also need to finish the Illuminae series, which I also own but I was so disappointed by the first book that I kind of lost the desire to read the others. 😦

  7. IF you do return to the Illuminae Files world I suggest reading along with the audiobooks. I rented my copies from the local library and I’m telling you it’s like life changing. The audiobooks are full casts WITH sound effects so it’s a totally cinematic experience! Just my opinion of course! =D

  8. I’ve put the Illuminae series on hold too. I have the third book but I just want to reread the first two books before reading it. And I just haven’t got around to it!
I definitely liked A Conjuring of Light from Shades of Magic series more than Gathering of Shadows but I have to admit, the length of the book put me off at times.

  9. I think you’re the first person I’ve read on this weeks TTT list that agrees with me on Illuminae. I think it might have been better in print, but I read it on the Kindle, and halfway through it pissed me off.

    1. That definitely counts! I feel the same way about series–I used to LOVE them when I was younger, but now I would much rather read a single book and move on.
