Reading Rush 2019 Wrap-Up

The Reading Rush has officially come and gone, and I had the best time! I’ve participated in the Booktubeathon (what it used to be called) several times before, but I have to say that this year has been my favorite yet. The website fostered a real sense of community and I was asked to host twitter sprints this year, which was a complete surprise and something that I never ever thought I would be asked to do. I was a bit nervous at first, but my two-hour session went so incredibly well and I still can’t believe how lovely people were. If you participated in my breakfast-themed sprints, thank you so much!

Here’s a little wrap up of what I read and the challenges I completed during the Reading Rush. You can also find this info on my Reading Rush profile here.

  1. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
  2. Till September Petronella by Jean Rhys
  3. The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
  4. The Lifted Veil by George Eliot
  5. Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis
  6. The Big Short by Michael Lewis
  7. Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton
  8. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Other Stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald
  9. Billy Budd by Herman Melville

In total, I read 1882 pages. (!!!) Before the Reading Rush started I decided on a TBR (see my post here) with five books that fit the reading challenges. Somehow I actually stuck to my TBR this time? And read every single book on it? I’m honestly very proud of myself because this very rarely happens!

My favorite book of the Reading Rush was definitely Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton. A friend recommended this to me earlier this summer and I’m so glad I finally got around to reading it–it was just what I needed!

  1. Read a book with purple on the cover
  2. Read a book in the same spot the whole time
  3. Read a book you meant to read last year
  4. Read a book with a non-human main character
  5. Read an author’s first book
  6. Read over 1000 pages
  7. Posted a Reading Rush bookstagram
  8. Participated in a Twitter sprint
  9. Read a 5 star book
  10. Read 7 books
  11. Read a book with over 5 words in the title

There were fourteen badges you could earn, so I think I did pretty well! I didn’t expect to read seven books or a thousand pages in a week, so I’m really pleased with my progress. I also participated in all of the photo challenges on bookstagram, which was a blast! You can see my bookstagram here to check them out–and here’s my favorite one from the week:

All in all, I had such a wonderful week participating in the Reading Rush! I look forward to this readathon every summer because it’s such a great way to knock a bunch of books off your TBR, chat with other bookworms, and feel more involved in the bookish community. Thank you to everyone who made this week amazing!!

Did you participate in the Reading Rush? How was your experience? Favorite book you read? Favorite moment that stood out to you over the course of the week? Let me know in the comments section below!

Yours,
HOLLY

    1. Thanks!! ❤ Yeah it's a lot to take on!! Luckily the Reading Rush aligned with a week where I wasn't doing much–otherwise it would have been crazy!

  3. 9 books??? That’s awesome!!
I managed to complete all the challenges as well. (I read 6 books and 50% of two more books, so I counted them as one more to get the 7 books badge 😀 )
The reading rush is probably my favorite read-a-thon. It always makes me so excited and happy to read.

  4. Yep I did The Reading Rush and I managed to read 7 books! Wahey! My favourite book was A Black Fox Running by Brian Carter, which I read for the book with a non-human main character. Here’s my Reading Rush wrap-up: https://lolaetlavie.wordpress.com/2019/07/29/the-reading-rush-wrap-up/

  7. 9 books!! In one week!! That’s so amazing 🤩 I only managed to read 4 books but I did read over 1,000 pages and that really surprised me. Participating in this was so much fun and actually really pushed me out of my comfort zone of deviating from set tbr lists LOL I can’t wait to do it again next year 😃
