I adore the Reading Rush. I participate in this week-long readathon every summer and it’s so much fun to be part of such a large online community of bookworms all reading at the same time. Fortunately, the Reading Rush folks have decided to set up another readathon while so many of us are social-distancing at home. The #stayhomereadingrush starts tomorrow April 16th and ends April 19th–a quick little reading sprint to get everyone in the bookish mood! Check out their website for more information.
Since I’m still currently in the midst of a law school semester (less than two weeks of classes left to go!) I know that I won’t be able to read as much as I would like to during this readathon. However, I’m still hoping to get to at least one or two of these books. I might end up combining some challenges in one or two books so I can cover them all, but we’ll see. For now, I’m going to give myself four book options, one for each challenge:
Read a book with a house on the cover.
The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. Since I don’t currently own a physical book with a house on the cover, I’ve decided that this will be my audiobook pick for the readathon. I’ve actually never read anything by Ann Patchett before, but I’ve heard fantastic things about her books. (And yes, I am indeed counting the word “house” at a house on the cover of this book. Sneaky? Perhaps. Effective? Absolutely.)
Read a book in the same room the whole time.
As You Like It by William Shakespeare. I’m not usually a big Shakespeare fan, but this play holds a special place in my heart because I saw it performed at The Globe in London when I studied abroad. I have such vivid fond memories of that performance as I believe it was my last time in London that year. Ever since then I’ve been meaning to read it, so hopefully I finally will during this readathon.
Read a book set somewhere you wish you could go.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. A magical world of adventures and books and pirates?? Seems like a much more interesting place than the bedroom I’m currently working out of! I’ve been excited to read this book for AGES and absolutely loved The Night Circus. Unfortunately I’ve heard some mixed reviews of this novel, but I’m going to do my best to go in with an open mind and reasonable expectations.
Read a book that will make you smile.
The Falconers by Dana Czapnik. One of my friends gave me this novel for my birthday and I’ve been so looking forward to reading it. I love getting books as gifts, especially when it’s something that the other person really enjoyed. I’m just so excited to read this and discuss it with her. No matter how I actually end up feeling about this book, I know that it’s connection with my friend will absolutely make me smile!
