The Book Blogger Oldie Tag!!

Hello hello! Today I have an exciting tag that I guess is sort of original, but mainly pulled from a tag I saw recently on booktube called The Booktube Oldie Tag. I’ll link Ariel Bissett’s video where I first saw it here:

Ariel’s video!

In this video, Ariel does a fun tag created by one of her friends that was modeled off of the Booktube Newbie Tag, which is a popular tag going around at the moment. The Booktube Oldie Tag is instead for people who have been making booktube videos for ages. Ariel certainly fits into this category–she talks about how she’s been part of the booktube community for NINE YEARS. (!!!) This video was so cute to watch, so I thought why not turn this into a book blogger oldie tag???

I took used the same questions as the tag Ariel does and just replaced “booktube” with “book blogging.” Without further ado, let’s get started!

1. How long have you been part of the book blogging community?

This past fall I hit my mark of SEVEN years of blogging, which is just wild to me. I started blogging at the very beginning of high school to share reviews of books I read, and here I am–a whole high school graduation and English undergraduate degree and one year of law school later–still here. Book blogging has been such an important, comforting constant in my life.

2. What was your biggest misconception before starting a book blog?

Back in they day when I first started blogging I thought it would just be me writing book reviews into the void–little did I know that there was such a lovely, growing community of other book bloggers out there! Discovering this community was the best surprise. ❤

3. How do you think book blogging has changed since you first started?

Back when I first started blogging, it wasn’t as common to have social media that was also tied to and associated with your blog. The thought of having an entire instagram account dedicated to posting bookish photos was unheard of! Now, it seems like having a bookstagram and a book twitter and booktube channel is more or less the norm.

4. What is your favorite book blogging memory?

So many!! One of the most surprising ones was when I wrote this post after I spent a night at Wheaton College when I was first deciding where to go to school. Somehow some alums found it and all of a sudden a bunch of Wheaties were reaching out to me on my blog and on Twitter sharing how much they loved Wheaton. It was so lovely and made me feel so connected to a school that would ultimately become like a second home to me.

Me, graduating from Wheaton College. Time sure does fly!!

5. What are some books that you were introduced to because of book blogging?

Oh boy, I don’t even know if I can answer this question specifically. SO MANY.

6. What is something that frustrates you about book blogging?

Honestly, not much. I sometimes get frustrated with things that are adjacent to book blogging (like bookish twitter, etc.) but overall the book blogging community has been such a bright spot to me. It’s such a relief to have a space where people are kind and supportive and engage in thoughtful, respectful discussions. Everyone is so enthusiastic about books, which I adore ❤

If I had to pick something that frustrated me, I would say that it’s my personal struggle to find time to blog as much as I would like to. Over the summers in college I would have so much time to blog, but now that I’m in law school it’s more and more difficult to carve out that time in my schedule. I’ve managed to find more time lately because I’m stuck home during quarantine with no friends around to distract me, but during a normal semester it’s tough to find time. I always find myself coming back to my blog, though! I miss it so much when I’m busy.

7. What is your hope for the future of book blogging?

I hope this little book blogging corner of the internet continues to be the welcoming, positive, inclusive, thought-provoking, amazing space that it is ❤

In the spirit of this tag, I’m going to tag some of the book bloggers that I’ve been following the longest!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tag! This was such a fun trip down memory lane ❤ If you’ve been around the book blogger block for a while and you’d like to do this tag as well, please join in! Let me know if you do–I’d love to read your responses!!

How long have you been book blogging? How did you first start? Let me know in the comments section below!

Yours,

HOLLY

Congrats to 7 years! I’m like you, I started blogging in my first year of high school, and yes time does fly! It’s funny I was thinking about it today because May marks my anniversary of blogging in general (not just on this blog) and you’ve kinda given me inspiration for a post to celebrate it! 🙂

seven years?? that’s amazing! i really hope i can keep on book blogging for as long as you have ❤ I also relate to the "finding the time to blog" struggle! I always have that problem when I'm not on vacation from school! but whenever i'm on vacation, it turns into a "finding the motivation to blog" situation 🤦🏻‍♀️

  12. Ah this is such a heartwarming, wonderful tag, thank you so much for tagging me! ❤ I'm amazed that you've been at it for SEVEN years already, it's incredible. ❤ and I so agree with you about the social media being a norm now… I feel like good old blogs are a little bit put aside in favor of social media lately, too. It makes me a little sad ahah 🙂
    Loved this! 🙂

Seven years of blogging? Woah! I’ve been blogging about books for … four years? I’m not 100% sure, to be honest, lol And while I love it, I often find it overwhelming, so I definitely admire you for keeping a great job for seven years! I honestly find it a bit awkward when someone I know irl follows my bookish social media, because that’s still not a thing I think, but I’ve learnt not to care so much. 😛

    1. Thank you so much!! ❤ Haha I totally get what you mean, it is sort of strange when IRL friends start following–not strange in a bad way, but odd nonetheless. Hard to explain haha
