Top Ten Tuesday: 2020 TBR

Happy Tuesday!! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is supposed to be about our most anticipated releases for the first half of 2020. However, because I’m horrible at keeping up with new releases I’ve instead decided to talk about the top ten books I’m hoping to read in 2020. Many of these books have been on my TBR for ages–fingers crossed that 2020 is the year I finally get around to reading them!

What books are you hoping to read in 2020? Any thoughts about the books on my list? Do you like making TBR lists for the New Year? Let me know in the comments section below!

Yours,

HOLLY

  1. The Starless Sea is also on my TBR. I don’t make any yearly TBRs, however I do make monthly ones, but that too I don’t end up following 🙈

    1. I probably shouldn’t bother making TBRs–I rarely stick to them! But they’re so fun to make haha

  2. The Name Of The Wind is a book I ALWAYS want to go to because I’ve heard nothing but amazing things, but so many dang pages. I’ll need to ensure I’m way ahead of my reading goal/arc schedule to try and fit that one in one of these days lol! I hope you manage to tackle all these fantastic selections!! =D

  4. Agnes Grey, Anna Karenina are both wonderful. I did read Vilette years ago but found it a struggle – I keep thinking I should give it another go though.
Do I like making lists of what to read? Sort of – the actual process of making the list is great fun. Reading them though is another matter – I feel pressured into reading the books on the list and that takes the fun away for me. It begins to feel like a chore. So I’m making 2020 a list free year….

    1. I’ve read Villette twice for uni courses but it’s still not my cup of tea! I don’t think I understand the love story at all.

      1. Oh no! I can’t wait to see what it’s all about.

      2. I love Villette & plan to reread. It isn’t as innocent and straightforward as Jane Eyre. It’s more cynical and angry. I think it’s brilliant. You need to know French though. I lot of the book is in French. !!

      3. Oh no!! I don’t know any French haha, I’ll have to ask one of my friends to translate. Thanks for the heads up!

      4. It’s not as clear cut as the Jane Eyre/Rochester story for sure

      5. I think I’m slightly cynical about that pairing too, but Rochester is at least consistently kind to Jane.

      6. Is he always kind – isn’t he rather mean in letting her think he’s going to marry Blanche??

    2. Ooh a list free year! That’s a great idea!! I feel the same way–I rarely actually follow through with reading everything on my lists, but making them is fun.

      1. I’m writing my 2020 plans right now – I think I’ve finally settled on them and it will definitely be a year without lists

  6. The Name of the Wind and Dune are the only two I’ve read on this list and they are both phenomenal. They are a bit bigger, but they are definitely worth it. Dune has 20+ sequels, but it can be read as a standalone novel (which is what I did). The Name of the Wind is the first of a trilogy and everyone is still waiting on book three. Like I said, the book is great and you should definitely read it, but if you don’t like waiting for the next installment then I may recommend waiting until the third book is out before starting.

  7. Ooh, great list, Holly! I have quite a few of these high up on my TBR as well. I’m also hoping to re-read The Name of the Wind before finally picking up Wise Man’s Fear this year 😂 Anna Karenin has been on my TBR for ages but it’s so intimidating! Haha I hope you enjoy all of these reads 🙂

    1. Thank you!! That’s also part of the reason why I haven’t read Anna Karenina yet–it’s quite intimidating!

  8. I’m also hoping to read the Brontës this year! I’ve got to finish up my last two Austens, and then I’m switching over. And hopefully, I’ll finish Ulysses this March since I DNF’d it for the time being last March, but I’m halfway through and want to finish it!

  9. Great TBR! I loved The Rest of the Story. It had such a classic, Sarah Dessen feel. The Starless Sea, Dune, and Anna Karenina are all on my TBR, too! I’m not sure if I’ll get to all three of those this year – especially Dune and Anna Karenina because they’re both so big, but one of those two will definitely be read!

  15. I also have The Starless Sea on my TBR. The Night Circus is one of my all time favourites. I’m also planning on reading Daisy Jones & The Six and finally completing The Raven Cycles series.

Best of luck with your 2020 TBR, Holly ❤️

  16. I loved Starless Sea and it looks like it’ll be a book which will be good for rereads too. I’ve had The Name of the Wind of my TBR for so long (as well as on my Kindle) but there always seems to be another book ahead of it 😂
