Autumn reading plans

Last autumn I was really intentionally about planning my reading for the spooky season, and it absolutely paid off. Not only did I read so many more gloomy, cozy reads than I usually would around this time of year, but I also felt much more connected to what I was reading. I can’t wait to do the same this autumn (I may or may not have started making this list in the heat of the summer…).

I’m hoping that my reading this season will incorporate books that are new to me as well as some rereads that I’ve been meaning to do for ages. Here are some spooky, cozy autumnal books that I’ve had my eye on:

The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne. This summer I made a brief visit to Salem, Massachusetts and it reminded me that I need to read more by Nathanial Hawthorne. The House of the Seven Gables is set at this historic house, and I think it would be amazing to tour the house and read the novel close together.

The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. It’s been several years since I read this book in college, but I remember it being mysterious and eerie. I think it would be a great pick if I’m craving a longer read that I can really sink into. Besides, it would also get me one book closer to my goal of rereading twelve books in 2023 (which has not been hugely successful thus far…).

The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman. Last autumn I read Practical Magic and had the best time immersed in that whimsical, witchy world. I’d love to continue on with the series this autumn, and I believe this is the next book. (I also finally have to watch the movie!)

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. I’ve heard so many people online praise this book as cute and witchy and heartwarming. I feel like it would make a great audiobook choice for cleaning, cooking, or putting up fall decorations…

I’m so excited to get started on this list and any other books I come across that have autumnal, spooky vibes.

What books are you hoping to read this autumn? Do you have any recommendations of books I should add to this list? I’d love to know.

Take care xx
